The Biggest Loser newsletter often has some great articles about how to stay on track with your weight loss programs. I think today's article was written just for me! I've reprinted it here:
Uno, Dos, Tres
Learn the 3 yes's and no's of Mexican cuisine.Refried beans pretty much sums it up. In a restaurant where food comes fried more than once, your diet is in serious trouble. Luckily, Biggest Loser trainer Bob Harper has put together this snappy "NO!" and "YES!" guide to Mexican food that will help you order wisely and easily.
The 3 Mexican NO's:
1. First tell the waiter not to bring those chips to your table! ("I love them and could eat every basket they bring to me....Stay away."). In place of chips, order corn tortillas and dip them into your salsa. They are the same thing as the chips, except not fried, and they'll satisfy that craving for dipping.
2. Instead of refried beans ask for black beans.
3. Remember: no sour cream, no guacamole, no flour tortillas, no crispy taco shells.
The 3 Mexican YES's:
1. Fajitas are a great choice! The meat will be grilled and your veggies are included.
2. Burritos without the flour tortilla. But with black beans, tomatoes, lettuce, and salsa.
3. Tacos. "Many times I will order three or four tacos, beef or chicken and combine the insides of all of them on a big salad (discarding the shell). And bam! There you go, a big taco salad without anything crunchy except the lettuce."
So print out this list and take it with you. You'll end up happy enough to do a hat dance.
