By way of NPR this morning and Hungry Girl's ezine today, I learned about Freerice.com.
There's a dual purpose to freerice.com. First, you play a word game where you guess the meaning of vocabulary words. The more you guess right, the more difficult the words get and the higher your level. Second, and more importantly, every correct guess puts 20 grains of rice into the mouths of hungry people world-wide. 20 grains of rice may not sound like a lot, but it adds up fast.
WARNING: it's really easy to get sucked into this game! And it's really fun to test your vocabulary level.
The rice is paid for by the site's advertisers and it's distributed by the United Nations World Food Program.
What better way to spend a few minutes when you need a brain break? But don't say I didn't warn you...

Thanks for the tip Denise. I hate to say how much rice I have donated in the last half hour since I visited freerice.com:) btw, I found: http://thesecret.tv/secret-to-you/ and though I'm not a big fan of rah-rah stuff, this is a good one for daily motivation, whether for commitments to being slim or otherwise. Enjoy!
