For a serious athlete-type runner, 400 miles in a year isn't much, but for me, it's huge! I was logging the info from my run this morning and realized in the 12 months I've owned my Garmin Forerunner (tracks my pace, distance, elevation), I have logged 400+ miles.
Not every run was logged since I forgot to wear it a couple of times (like on my 4 mi run/hike this past week), and I was recovering from injuries for a couple of months and was walking more than running.
For an amateur runner, I'm happy with the number.
My first run with the Garmin was 2.19 miles on 3/7/08. Today I did 8.68 run/hike along the L.A. River and then up a lot of hills in Griffith Park. It was supposed to be a short cut that proved to be much longer and steeper than anticipated!
So, over the course of 55 weeks, I've averaged 7.27 miles per week.

Way to go Denise! I'm an avid runner myself and find that tracking miles is a huge mental boost. One mile at a time (or 8, or 10), may not seem like much at the time, but when you add them all up, it is a powerful motivator.
To your health!

Thanks for the encouragement, Diane. I like to see progress so tracking helps me stay motivated and show me I've accomplished something.

That is so awesome! I am so proud of you - watching you run the other day was an inspiring sight. Congrats!

Hi Denise,
That's a great achievement and I wanted to say congratulations.
My wife started running just over a year ago, and like you started with short runs and walk/runs.
Since then she has gone on to complete numerous 10k organised runs which culminated in her first marathon last november.
Just wondered if you take part in any organised runs/races? They can be great motivators.
Best Wishes
